Turn any photo into the right Pinterest size without stretching it. Choose a size, crop to fill or fit the whole photo on a blurred background, and download. Your photo never leaves your browser.
How to resize an image for Pinterest
- Choose a photo, or drop or paste it into the box.
- Pick a size. Standard pin (1000 × 1500) is the right choice for most pins.
- Choose how to fit it. Crop to fill covers the whole pin: drag the preview to pick the part to keep and use Zoom to get closer. Fit whole photo keeps everything and fills the gaps with a blurred copy or a solid color.
- Pick a file type and click Download image.

Crop or fit?
Crop to fill is best when the photo has one clear subject, like a dish, a room or a product. You lose the edges of the photo, but the pin looks full and bold in the feed.
Fit whole photo is best for landscape photos you don’t want to cut, like a wide room shot or a group photo. The blurred background keeps the pin looking intentional instead of having plain bars.
Why landscape photos make weak pins
Pinterest shows pins in columns of the same width, so a wide photo becomes a short strip in the feed and is easy to scroll past. A 2:3 pin gets far more space. Resizing a landscape blog image to 1000 × 1500 is one of the quickest ways to make an old post more pinnable.
Which file type to choose
- JPG for photos. Smallest files, and they look great.
- PNG for graphics, screenshots or pins with lots of text, so edges stay crisp.
- WebP for small, high-quality files when you upload to a website that supports it.
Need the file even smaller? Run it through the Pinterest image compressor.
Tips for sharp results
- Start with a large photo. If yours is smaller than the size you pick, the tool tells you it will be enlarged and may look soft.
- Leave space for text. If you’ll add a title, crop with some calm space at the top or middle.
- Turn it into a full pin. Add a bold title and your website with the free Pinterest pin maker.
Frequently asked questions
What size should a Pinterest pin be?
1000 × 1500 pixels, a 2:3 ratio, is the best size for standard pins. Read our full Pinterest pin size guide for every pin type.
